Farm 5 Friday.

Hello! This is Alexis with Farm Tee Company. Thank you for subscribing to Farm 5 Friday. Each week, I'll be sharing a list of 5 farm & agriculture related content.

To Read:
Monarch Electric Tractors. While large automobile manufacturers are beginning to produce more electric cars and trucks, the largest tractor manufacturers have yet to take the plunge. However, the market is seeing new, small manufacturers who are tackling the electric tractor market. They are focusing on sizes <70 HP and geared towards smaller to medium sized farms. Check out this Bloomberg article.

To Watch:
King Cole Ducks - Farm to Fork. Two things I really took away from this short video about the King Cole farm is that it is possible for farms to do more vertical integration to ensure the best food possible and the acronym FLAWS for what to focus on for livestock - feed, light, air, water, and space.

Organization to Follow:
The Livestock Conservancy. The Livestock Conservancy's mission is to protect endangered livestock and poultry breeds from extinction and ensure the availability of broad genetic diversity for the continued evolution of agriculture. You can follow them on Instagram @livestockconservancy and Facebook.

A Tool to Use:
If you're considering beginning to process poultry on the farm and don't want to invest yet into a feather plucker barrel machine, I recommend getting a drill attachment such as this one on Amazon. I used one this past weekend while processing chickens on our farm and it certainly sped up the plucking process. Try to use a drill that has speed settings to avoid throwing feathers all over the place and bruising your chicken.

Quote of the Week:
"Farming isn’t a battle against nature, but a partnership with it. It is respecting the basics of nature in action and ensuring that they continue." — Jeff Koehler
